Mildred "Millie" Slind

August 3, 1924 — May 26, 2024

Mildred “Millie” Slind, 99, Minot, ND, formerly of rural Parshall, ND, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 26, 2024, in her home.

Mildred Louise Engelson was born August 3, 1924, the daughter of Ingvald and Florence (Jordahl) Engelson, in Logan, ND. The following year the family moved to the Engelson farm south of Des Lacs, in Vang township. She was confirmed at Rose Valley Lutheran Church and attended Des Lacs High School.

She married Arthur Slind on December 22, 1942. They bought a farm in the Parshall/Roseglen area where they made their home, worked side by side, and were blessed with four children.

Millie was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Roseglen, where she taught Sunday School and was involved in the Ladies Aid. She and Art belonged to the Parshall Golf Club where they enjoyed golfing for many years. They spent 14 winters in Apache Junction, Arizona, golfing and making many friends.

Millie provided many happy memories for her children and grandchildren on the farm. The “gang” would arrive for the weekends to a table set with home cooked meals, her trademark potato salad, and delicious apple and pumpkin pies.

Millie and Art retired from farming after 41 years and moved to Minot. There they joined Christ Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge, where they played pinochle with friends and spent many Saturday nights dancing and visiting. They really enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s sporting events. She loved the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She considered them all special, and they felt the same about her.

On September 22, 2004, Art passed away. In 2007, Millie moved to The View in Minot. She was involved in many activities, especially cards, bingo, and pool. She loved competition. In her 16.5 years at The View it became her home. She was immersed in the wonderful care, kindness, and fun of the staff. She loved her space and spent hours at her window watching the ebb and flow of city life and admiring the lights at night. In her last days, Amanda, Heather, and staff at The View went above and beyond their duty to bring comfort to her.

Millie always felt she had a great life with the Lord in her heart.

Her loving family includes: children, Carol (David) Stockwell, Contoocook, NH, Joyce (Larry) Danger, and Ronald (Karla) Slind, Rice Lake and Bismarck, ND; grandchildren, Mitch Sletten, Steve (Christine) Stockwell, Sara (Ben) Edmund, John (Juli) Stockwell, Ben (Jennifer) Slind, Josh (Regan) Slind, and Ashley Stevens; step-grandchildren, Kirsten (Chad) Wolsky, Michael (TJ) Hanson, and Nicole (Matt) Ryan; 14 great-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mavis Slind, and Hermine Slind; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Debra Slind; grandsons, Gregory Stockwell and Jeff Stockwell; great-grandson, Owen Stevens; sisters, Lorraine Jacobson and Myrle Underdahl; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
